Solano County, California Land Market Insights and Pricing
The Solano County town of Dixon was established during California's mid-19th-century Gold Rush and later became home to a number of large dairy farms supplying milk and other dairy products to nearby San Francisco during the 1900s. In order to feed the valley's large dairy herds, fields in Solano and adjacent Yolo counties were put to use growing alfalfa and other cattle feed. Today, agriculture continues to drive a significant percentage of Solano County's economy, with major crops including walnuts, alfalfa and hay, cattle, and nursery products. Unsurprisingly given the county's location close to Napa and Sonoma, wine grapes are also becoming increasingly important to the local economy, as are connected businesses in wine production, storage and distribution.
