Located in northwestern Texas, and incorporating several counties that comprise the lower portion of the Texas Panhandle, the South Plains region of Texas is one of the world's biggest cotton-producing areas. The gateway town of Lubbock is the main population center of the South Plains region and is home to Texas Tech University.
