Ranch headquarters is located approximately 40 miles east of Truth or Consequences with Engle, NM located halfway in between. Spaceport America is roughly 15 miles to the Southwest.

The ranch is permitted to run 225 head of cattle year round.

Topography/Vegetation:

The east side of the ranch is compromised of the western slope of the San Andres Mountain Range. This area is dominated by black gramma,side-oats gramma, blue gramma and drop seeds. Pinon and Juniper trees are scattered throught this area. The western side of the ranch consists of flat benches and drainages. The benches consist of black grama, galleta, bush muhly, drop seeds, three-awns, fluff grass, tarbush and creosote. Side-oats gramma, bluestem, mesquite, apache plume and skunk brush compromise the drainages.

Soils:

The primary soils on the ranch consist of Millet-Sedillo complex, Nickel-Caliza very gravelly sandy loams and Nolam gravelly sandy loam.

Wildlife:

Wildlife varies from small mammals and birds to reptiles, raptures, coyotes, deer and antelope.

Climate:

Precipitation varies from 8 to 10 inches of moisture annually. During the monsoon months is generally when the greatest amount of precipitation occurs. The average annual temperature is around 60 degrees.

Elevation:

Elevation ranges from 5500 ft. on the western boundary of the ranch to 7100 ft. on the eastern boundary.

Fencing:

The ranch consists of 5 pastures with 2 traps. Fencing consists of metal or wood posts with 4 to 5 strands of barbed wire.

Water:

The ranch is watered by three wells with approximately 12 miles of pipeline and numerous dirt tanks.

Improvements:

The Shannon Canyon Ranch contains 3 sets of working corrals. The headquarters contains a shop, barn, and a nice home which is powered by solar. The shipping pens include a large barn/ shop.
