Brinkley Fish Farm & Duck Hunting

This is a very diverse property! Do you have a vision for creating an outdoor recreation area your family could enjoy across a variety of seasons? Would you like a tract of land you and a friend or two could turn into a nice, relaxing area to deer hunt, duck hunt and fish? This 98 +/- acre farm located between Brinkley and Wheatley could be the ticket. Currently operating as a commercial aquaculture farm, this tract offers multiple opportunities. Aquaculture in some form could be continued, but the current infrastructure, along with wetlands management would lend itself to an outdoor haven offering deer, waterfowl and fishing.

The property is located just north of Interstate 40, with the only access being a county road that overpasses the interstate. The county road ends just past the property, limiting passerby traffic. On the west side of the tract is a four-acre pond that the owners refer to as their crawdad pond. Shallow and ringed with vegetation, this small body of water offers a unique habitat. According to the current owner, blue-winged teal frequent this pond during the early season. Just east of the crawdad pond is a twenty acre or so tract of timber. A seasonal slough meanders through the timber and there is a hardwood ridge in the middle of the timber that deer frequent. Approximately forty acres of the farm are aquaculture ponds. Divided into three ponds, approximately eight, twelve and eighteen acres, these ponds could be continued with aquaculture production or converted into waterfowl habitat. According to the current owner, aquaculture efforts are hampered by waterfowl, especially several species of diving ducks, that like to reside on the ponds in the fall and winter. On the east end of the farm is a lake of about seven acres that was dug to supply dirt for the overpass. This lake does have a fishable population including some nice crappie. The east end of the property has a narrow strip of woods.

A 1,728 metal home sits on the north side of the property. This house is currently three bedroom and has one finished bath and one other bathroom that needs to be finished. This house is heated with gas and fed by well water, softened by a Culligan water conditioner. It has an electric water heater and a septic system. Other structures on the property include two minnow vats and one outbuilding. Besides the house well, there are three electric wells on the property that provide water for the aquaculture business. Two larger wells feed the ponds, while a small well provides water for the vats.

This property has that look of a place that would hold a multitude of wildlife and on a visit in early April we encountered several species of shorebirds as well as shovellers, blue-winged teal, ruddy ducks and bluebill as well as some deer. The current owners and their family have been very successful in deer hunting the property and have duck hunted as the opportunity presented itself.
